Easement Statistics & Map

Private land conservation is catching up with public land conservation in Rappahannock County. The Shenandoah National Park makes up about 18.7% of the county (over 31,000 acres) and privately owned land with agricultural, forestry, and/or scenic easements makes up about 17.2% of the county (over 29,000 acres).

Rappahannock farm owners, owners of the forested foothills, owners of the pristine streams and rivers, and owners of the great untouched open spaces have voluntarily donated rights of development on over 21% of the privately owned land in the County.

This keeps our land open for agriculture, supporting a sustainable network of farms and the farm services that are needed to make local food and agricultural exports viable. It provides for profitable forests and conservation of the lands that provide clean water here and to our neighbors downstream. It provides wildlife habitat, access for our anglers and hunters, and it ensures that Rappahannock will always support its vibrant equestrian culture.
